The opening chapter chronicles the disappearance of a man and a woman on a breezy, August afternoon in northern Lake Huron. The woman was an attorney who represented some of Michigan’s most notorious polluters; the man was a congressional aide whose body was never found. Local police departments aren’t convinced that the incident was an accident because of the stash of clues left behind. The case is further complicated by a letter written by the aide to the story’s main character, reporter Derrick Twitchell, in which he said, “I know I’m going to be murdered, but I don’t know when or where.”

discovery one blustery November afternoon..."

"By the time he realized
that his wife's killer was in his grasp, it was too

By the time he ran for help, they chased him from
Hemingway's Walloon Lake to the sultry sands of the
Caribbean.
Snubbed by the authorities, scorned by his patients, he
turns to the woman of his future with ties to his past.
They all had a secret to tell; they all had a secret to
keep.
And he had to discover what it was."
